Tate Shots have recently released a nice short video podcast of Thomas Demand (3mins 44) talking about his photographed paper sculptures of the Oval Office and other rooms in the White House. This sheds some light on how he works generally too. For example, he talks about his deliberate omission of detail and why this is so important. He isn't trying to create a simple illusion of reality.
Demand has emerged as one of the most significant art photographers of his generation. We looked at his series 'Tavern' in Tate Modern for Week One of the course Aesthetics: Classic Theories.
